What

Synapse is dynamic, experiential, and nurturing.

A snapshot of Synapse students in their classrooms, no matter what the grade or who the teacher, would capture eyes shinning with curiosity and fingers busy manipulating pencils, scissors, papers, clay or whatever else comes within their grasp. Each school year we choose an overarching theme for the curriculum that makes it meaningful and engaging for our students. This theme guides the students as they acquire knowledge and skills and work productively with their peers and mentors. This program envelopes each student in its creative and world-relevant themes, fully engaging their minds in the learning process.

The Synapse educational method is grounded in a fusion of the Humanistic and Constructivist Models together allowing students  to develop head, heart, and hands. Humanistic learning theory holds that people are capable and worthy of individual respect and attention.  Our research-based approach to social-emotional learning, provides a context of empathy, accountability, and respect by teaching the skills of emotional intelligence. Constructivism means that optimal learning occurs when people build from awareness to knowledge to application–literally constructing meaning. At Synapse, these strands are woven together in a carefully designed program that nurtures the gifts and passions of our students.  Drawing on current brain development research, the neuroscience of emotion, and decades of experience, our program is unique and effective in its design and application.
